A relatively young airline, it was founded in 1982 but came to prominence after establishing an important route between the airports London Gatwick and Newark New Jersey. Even though it is not one of the biggest airlines in the UK, they still operate important international routes and are renown for their customer service. Even under good management and with the backing of Sir Richard Branson and his company, Virgin Group, the airline still finds itself dealing with flight delays, cancellations and overbookings. In their condition as a European carrier, they must, as established by Regulation EC 261/2004, pay compensation to the passengers who have experienced a delay due to the fault of the airline whilst travelling on one of their flights.

How do I claim compensation for a Virgin Atlantic flight delay, cancellation or overbooking?

You can always let Yource handle all the bother of claiming compensation for your flight delay, cancellation or overbooking. We will make sure the airline doesn’t get away with not proving that your flight disruption was caused by an extraordinary circumstance. Something they claim very often even though it was not the case. In order to claim for compensation you will need the following documents:

  • Copy of your e-ticket or boarding pass

  • Your PNR code (probably shown in one of the documents abovementioned)

  • Copy of your identification document or passport

Furthermore, even though it isn’t strictly required by the airline, if you know the reason why your flight was delayed or cancelled, you could speed up the process of arguing against the airline when they quote an extraordinary circumstance as the reason for the disruption. So get you hands on that delay certificate, it will come in handy further down the process of claiming your compensation!

The airline offered me travel vouchers, should I take them?

No! Very often, if you accept the vouchers they’ve offered you, you do so by renouncing your right to claim for further compensation. So unless their value is, at least, the same as what you’re entitled to by law, you shouldn’t accept these vouchers.

My Virgin Atlantic flight was delayed, cancelled or overbooked. How much money am I entitled to?

The regulation establishes that the distance covered by the route of the flight is the characteristic determines the amount of compensation that has to be paid to the passengers (in Euros). Virgin Atlantic is registered as a European carrier and therefore they will have to comply with the regulation in all of their flights inside, from and to the European Union. The amount of compensation you should get if you suffered through a delay, cancellation or overbooking whilst travelling with Virgin Atlantic is as follows:

  • If you were travelling on a flight covering up to 1,500 kilometers, you are entitled to compensation of £221.00* per passenger;

  • If the distance was between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometers: a compensation of £354.00* per passenger is due;

  • If your flight travelled upwards of 3,500 kilometers: you will receive £532.00* per person

* Please take into account that the total amount of compensation in GBP may vary depending on the exchange rate at the time of the compensation being paid.

These are considerable amounts of money, so don’t let the airline get away with not paying the compensation that their passengers are entitled to. You can start the whole process already by simply filling in your flight’s details in our claim calculator. You will find out how much money you can claim for and, if you decide to submit your claim afterwards, our team will start working for you right away!

Our recommendations for when your Virgin Atlantic flight is delayed, cancelled or overbooked.

If you find yourself at the airport wondering what to do now that your flight has been delayed, cancelled or if you’ve been denied boarding because the flight was overbooked; here are our recommendations to make the process of claiming for compensation a little bit easier.

Always remember that for lengthy delays, the airline must provide the corresponding care. This means you should be given access to means of communication like a phone or a computer and you should receive meals and refreshments from the airline. If you have to spend the night due to a cancellation, the airline has to arrange your accommodation.

Don’t forget to ask for the reason or cause of your disruption and maybe even get a delay certificate. Finally, as stated before, do not forget to keep a copy of your travel documents. Especially a copy of your booking and your boarding pass, if you received one.

Am I entitled to compensation for a Virgin Atlantic delayed or cancelled flight?

In order to determine if you are entitled to compensation because of a flight delay or cancellation, first you need to make sure that your delay, when arriving at your final destination, exceeded the 3 hours as stipulated in the Regulation. When it comes to cancellations, in most cases, you must have arrived at your final destination with a delay greater than 2 hours or you didn’t take a replacement flight from the airline. When a Virgin Atlantic flight gets delayed or cancelled, you’ll only be entitled to compensation if they can’t prove that the reason for the disruption was an extraordinary circumstance. Events like a thunderstorm, Air Traffic Control strikes and airport security issues are all examples of extraordinary circumstances.

If everything feels a little bit confusing, don’t worry! We are here to help. Our team will be glad to validate your claim and let you know if we consider you to be entitled to compensation. You can submit your claim with Yource!

Great service, I don't think I would have gone through all the hassle of submitting my own claim and following up on it.
